Zoeller Partners with Local NGO, WaterStep, in Bringing Safe Drinking Water & Disinfectant to the World

May 6, 2025

LOUISVILLE, KY, May 6, 2025 – Zoeller Company is proud to announce its partnership with WaterStep, a local organization that is making great strides in their mission to bring safe water to everyone with their Water On Wheels (WOW) carts. These carts use their innovative BleachMaker and ChlorineGenerator to create life-saving disinfectant and safe drinking water. A 2022 study by the World Health Organization revealed that over 1.7 billion individuals still lack access to safe drinking water (https://www.who.int/news-room/fact-sheets/detail/drinking-water). Since their founding, WaterStep has successfully completed over 5,000 projects across 72 different countries, positively impacting the lives of over 15 million people with their astounding technology.

Beyond  supplying communities with their transformative WOW Carts, WaterStep experts provide vital training to ensure community members are equipped to set up, operate, and maintain the carts and their components safely for years to come. Going steps further, WaterStep is dedicated to providing health and hygiene education tailored to the specific needs of the communities they serve. They also offer training at their downtown Louisville headquarters to teach teams how to repair hand pumps. By their research, around 40% of the world’s hand pumps are currently non-operational. This initiative aims to empower visitors and volunteers with the knowledge necessary to repair existing infrastructure within communities, thereby reducing the need for costly new boreholes.

Recognizing WaterStep as a like-minded organization with shared values, Zoeller Company’s CEO, Bill Zoeller, joined WaterStep’s Board of Directors in 2024. For the past 20 years, Zoeller has been proudly supplying WaterStep with pump parts and components. Currently, Lincoln Industries and Flint & Walling products have both been used in the creation of WOW Carts. Lincoln Industries molds the plastic parts for their ChlorineGenerator, and Flint & Walling’s EK Shallow Well Jet Pump Tank mounted system, is an integral component to WOW carts used today to circulate the water through the system. Within the next year, Zoeller intends to offer their employee volunteers the opportunity to help WaterStep build more life-saving WOW Carts through Servant Leadership opportunities, as well as help share their story and message to the world.
