Q.
How can I tell if my pump is subject to the recall? A.
The part number (PN), model number (Model No.) and date code are
found on the nameplate on the top of the pump, except for Part No.
48-0008 of Model WM48 where this information is found on the tag near
the plug. The word
"Philippines" is stamped near the prongs of the molded plug
itself. Q. When were these pumps sold? A.
These pumps were sold to distributors between September 6, 2006
through October 31, 2006. Consumers
would have purchased these pumps from distributors any time after
September 2006. Q.
What is the problem with the pumps that are being recalled? A.
The problem is with the pump’s plug on the 20 ft. black cord
and plug set attached to the pump and is only present when the molded
plug is used. The plug on
certain pumps could have a grounding problem that could pose an
electrical shock hazard to consumers. Q. How was this problem discovered? A.
During ground continuity testing of the pumps on the assembly
line, a few cord and plug sets showed intermittent ground continuity
between the grounding wire and terminal within the plug. Q. What caused this problem? A.
The problem was caused during manufacturing when the cord
supplier first began to have the cord and plug set manufactured in the
Philippines. Q.
Are pumps that have been hard wired (i.e., where the plug has
been removed) subject to the recall? A.
No. Pumps that have
been hard wired are not subject to the recall and pose no safety
problem. Q.
Why aren't pumps that have been hard wired subject to the recall? A.
The ground continuity problem was only found in the molded plug
of the 20 ft. black cord and plug sets.
If the plug is removed in a hard wired installation, this
eliminates the potential hazard. Q.
Does this recall involve other models of Zoeller pumps? A.
No. This recall is
limited to only the pump models manufactured between September 1, 2006
and October 31, 2006 that are equipped with the 20ft black cord and plug
set manufactured in the Philippines. Q. How do I know that the problem has been
fixed? A.
Rigorous testing has been conducted on all 20 ft. black cord and
plug sets, including a ground continuity test. Q.
Can I just cut off the plug on the 20 ft. black cord and plug set
instead of returning my pump to Zoeller? A.
No. All pumps that
are still equipped with the plug from the 20 ft. black cord and plug
sets should be returned to us. Q.
Will I receive a new pump or a refund? A.
Yes. Zoeller will
send you a new pump or provide a full refund. Q.
Will Zoeller reimburse the reasonable costs to remove and replace
my recalled pump(s)? A. Yes.
Zoeller will reimburse these costs. Q.
